" Hi my name is Don Dangler on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about how to play a hard hand in blackjack using the basic strategy guide. A hard hand is a hand that does not contain an Ace that can be used as a 1 or 11. Let's look at some hands. This particular in instance the player's hand shows a 12—a hard 12 cause there is no Ace available to be used as a 1 or 11. The dealer card shows a 3. If we look at the chart, if we find a hard 12 for the player on the hard totals, a 3 for the dealer that brings us to hand that should have a hit. So let's have another card. 18... from there according to the chart can be played as a hard 18. It should stand under all situations. No more cards for the player. In this situation the players hand shows a 16 versus the dealers 2. According to our chart, move down 16 versus 2, that's a stand: no more cards for the player. Here the player has 9, still a hard hand, even though it is small and it couldn't break versus the dealers 5. According to the basic strategy guide, the player needs to take a hit. Your basic strategy guide, once you learn to read it will help you learn how to play any hand available in the casino. Once you've had a little practice, you won't need it any longer. But until then they are usually by groups, color coded, in this case H for hit, D for double down, S for stand. "
