"EMIL LAMPRECHT: The next trick I'm going to show you is pretty tough and I personally cannot do it very well in pattern. But I'll break it down for you, show you the elements of the trick, and then you can play with it on your own time. This trick is usually called Over the Shoulder and it's considered a Body Throw, but it's also considered a blind catch, in a way. The trick is like so. You throw the ball across over the opposite shoulder and then catch it behind you. Now, the catch itself is blind in the sense that unless you go in like this, you can't see your hand catching it. So the trick is to follow the ball with your eyes long enough to see the first two inches of its descent. When you start working on higher numbers, you'll find that the first two inches of descent is how you determine where you're catching any ball in a pattern. Very hard to do it even with one ball, as you can see. Now, the vice versa is to do the throw from that position, so if you catch there, you can also throw from there. This is where the Body Throw comes into play as opposed to Body Catch. You can do it to the same hand as a 4, or to the opposite hand as a 3 or 5. Usually, it looks better as a straight throw because of the amount of effort it takes to put it on the other side of your body. To do it in pattern, it's the same as any other trick. The catch is like so. You want to be able to do it on both sides. And the throw, like pattern stalls, you need to give yourself a little more time for it. Because I'm throwing a straight throw, it's actually a 4-2-3 to be done this way. It's a very difficult trick, both of them, the catch and the throw. I suggest breaking it down, remembering good posture and giving it your best go. It will take some time, as do Backcrosses and all the other tricks, but can be very interesting combination when put together, for instance, with Backcrosses. So, that's Over the Shoulder throws and catches."
