"EMIL LAMPRECHT: One of juggling's most essential drills is called "the flash". Now, the flash refers to two things. A "regular flash" is one throw and one catch of each ball. One, two, three. That's a flash. A "high flash" is when you are throwing the balls high enough that both hands are empty for a period of two beats. Now, if you're following siteswaps, this would be siteswap 55500. Where my hands clapped is where both hands were empty. You want to have enough time to do that. The balls never change from a cascade pattern. They're just throwing higher. Now, a good way to warm up for this is one at a time then start with a small pattern. Once you have your small pattern under control, throw all three in the air. If you can clap twice, even better. It's very hard to do this when you're first learning it without running all over the place. So, do it in sections. Break it down to one throw. And then do one flash at a time starting with both hands until eventually you can put it all together. That's a three-ball high flash. This trick is very important when warming up for five balls."
