"EMIL LAMPRECHT: The next trick I'm going to show you is often a mistake. Most people, when learning three-balls for the first time or even two-balls, will do this. With two balls, this is not juggling. But with three balls, it's actually a juggling trick. It's called a Shower. The siteswap for it is 5-1. Now, the shower pattern is very fast, which is one of the reasons we usually don't teach it as opposed to the Cascade. The Cascade, no matter how fast you think it is, you have as much time as you need according to the height of the throw. The same applies to the Shower. But because you're using a Vamp...it's very difficult to control. It's a constant Vamp, not just one, and you need to have a nice, high dominant hand throw to be able to do it. Once you get good, you can get nice and tight, but it's not suggested and often results in dropping. The most important thing to remember is that starting "cold," meaning not in pattern, is always easier than starting out of the pattern. So learn from a cold start, and also get this trick down in both hands. When learning this trick, I didn't do it in both hands right away, which has resulted in a habit to kind of have this weird, awkward jump in my pattern when doing it left-handed. It's very helpful to be able to do this smoothly on both sides and make some tricks with higher numbers considerably easier. There's not much more I can tell you about the trick than that; it takes a lot of determination and practice. Go for short runs. If it's out of control, make the run shorter and break it down. If you're having trouble with vamps, practice vamps in various ways. If you're having trouble with high-controlled throws, practice maybe just putting two or three balls in one hand and just practicing those high throws. Some determination and practice, then you have a shower."
