"Now one of the things you should avoid when making a crossword is using a grid that looks like this. What's wrong with this? Well, let's take a look at 3 across. It?s a five letter word, only one of those letters is in our second word. 2 across of a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 letter word. Only two of the letters, that's one in four of the letters. So, you're relying almost entirely on the clue and the fun of a crossword puzzle is that you get hints by answering one clue, you get a hint to another by having a letter that is in two words. And one of the things that a cryptic style crossword grid does or a British style crossword, is that every word has at least half of its letters in a second word. In this case, we have a 7 letter word and we have 1, 2, 3, 4 of the letters in downwards as well as in the crossword."
