Hi, my name is Dan Kimbrough, in this clip we are going to discuss how to bid a spades hand individually as a team. The difference between this and the partnership rules is that when you play partnership you are allow to discuss amongst your team, I got 2 and a possible, I got 4 and a possible, that is 6 and 2 possibles lets go 7. When you are bidding individually as a team, each person says what they can get and that is it. The team total comes from what you say individually, you always start to the person on the left of the dealer. So the person on the left of the dealer says they can get 2, your partner says 4, there partner says 4, then it is on you. These two has said 2 and 4 so they are going 6, there is no discussion, they can't talk about possibles. Whatever you enter is what you are saying and combines you to get yours. As the dealer your partner said 4, depending on what you say that is what your total is going to be. Again there is no room for discussion when you are playing individual bidding under partnership rules. Now giving the hand that we have here in front of us, as you can see we got a king here, a king here and a joker here. The conservative way to bid this hand would be to say you have 2 books because you got your joker that is going to give you a card and you got the 9 of diamonds. The 9 of diamonds alone is not going to get anything for you but you are going to be able to cut diamonds early on the game because you only have 1 and once it is gone it is gone and you will be good to go. So conservatively you have 2, if your partner said 4, you are going 6 as well. You are not going to discuss and say well I got 2 and 2 possibles, you are just going to bid your hand. A more aggressive and advanced spade player would probability go 3 because the 2 kings that are in their hand, one of these if played properly will make a book for them. But again conservative basic spades, you are going to go 2.
