"Many people hear of tangrams in the classroom. That's the first exposure they have to the puzzle. Tangrams works well in the classroom because it demonstrates proportions and ratios, it also teaches about shapes. You have right triangles and then you can measure the area of those triangles, and square, and the parallelogram. Tangram puzzles also teach problem solving skills. When I played it in school we got prizes for getting them done the fastest, extra credit and candy. That's a very good incentive. To do this exercise very inexpensively go ahead and have each student make their own tangram set with a sheet of paper. You can find free tangram puzzles online. So it's good to just print those out and project them. "
