"Hi, my name's Austin Harmon, but out here I'm known as Forest Evergreen. And I'm here on Expertvillage.com to teach you about the game of Amtgard. Okay, some of the other weapons we have. This is called a madu, which is a shield attached to a down weapon, which can both slash and stab. So, you fight with it out here to block, and then you can throw stabs with it or you can try to slash with it. This is a punch shield. Unlike the shield that he was using earlier where he had it strapped to his arm, you use this one out sort of like the madu to block with. And some people actually make modus out of these by attaching spikes on both ends to stab with, so that you can stab here or here, and still be able to block with it. So the difference is the grip. This would be called a center-grip madu if it had the spikes on it because I'd be holding it in the middle. This would be a standard madu because I hold it up near the top--I'd have more reach with it, it's more of a stabbing weapon. This is more of an in-close fighting weapon to block with and then try to reach around the shield or around to block with."
