How to Remove Film From Development Canister

"The next step in developing our film obviously is we need to get it out of the canister. Some cameras give you the option of allowing the leader to stay out after it’s rewound so to make the process of developing it yourself much easier, most cameras however rewind it completely into the canister to prevent you from double exposing which is where you run it through twice and actually have images super imposed on top of each other. But to get it out you simply need a can opener and some strength, remember do not do this in the light this will ruin the film, this is just an inexpensive roll of film that I’ve used to demonstrate the process. Take the can opener and put it underneath the rim and simply just peel it back and carefully remove the spindle, you want to take care that you don’t touch the film itself cause fingerprints will create, will put oils on the film and it’ll create a spot where the developer won’t penetrate, as you can see we’ve got our roll of film and we’re ready to begin loading it into the small tank developer and begin our developing process."
