People have been playing dice games for thousands of years, whether for money, property, or just for fun. Any type of dice game that has been played has revolved around one special act: the roll. Rolling the dice is significant because there is no way, within the rules of play, to control the outcome. For this reason, the phrase “roll the dice” has come to be associated with taking big risks or letting go of control. Based upon the numbers that show on the top of each die, the rules of a dice game dictate what actions should be taken. Games involving betting, drinking, or skill are all built upon this basic principal.
Ancient dice were irregularly shaped, originally made from animal bones—which is where the phrase “roll the bones” comes from. Modern dice are usually of the six-sided cube variety, numbered with pits from one to six on each side; these pits are called “pips.” Although a pair of dice is commonly used for play, especially for board games, dice games can use as many as will fit in the hand.
As in ages past, many dice games are played in the company of gambling and drinking; though skill and enjoyment are still important elements of playing dice. In this free video series, learn 40 different dice games you can play just for fun, for betting money, or for drinking with friends. Watch these video clips and get simple instructions for many different varieties of dice games.
" Hi my name is Carlos Ramos Jr. coming to you on behalf of Expert Village, and today we are talking about a variety of games that you could play with dice. The first game we are going to talk about is game called 105. It is a simple fast moving game which requires five dice per person and this game could play up to six people. So for example, I need five dice, the person next to me needs 5 dice, and so on and so on. Now what happens is each player rolls there dice and set aside the dice showing there target number. The target number being there position in the circle. Me being the first person playing I will number one the person next to me is number two, person next to them is number three and so on and so on. What I want to do is roll my dice and I need to see a number at least a one in there and there is now one so then I have to set aside my dice and the other person rolls and pretend that they are rolling they are trying to go as many twos as possible and no twos. The third person will roll their dice and see if there is a three there. If there is three there, they could set aside the three. Now there four away from winning the game. That is how you win the game the person who set there high point of there dice with there identical number, their target number is the one begins. So say for instance there is my ones that is me and I put away my ones. The turn then comes back to me. I roll a number one again and I get to pull another dice. That is pretty much how the game goes if I where number two that would pull those two away from that person. So the winner of the player who roll all six of the five identical numbers so there you go. 105."
