"ABE TOKE: Hi. Welcome to Expert Village, my name is Abe Toke. I'm going to take you through step by step to shape yourself a complete surfboard. Once you've cut it out initially, you want to clean up those lines that we just cut that I just talked about. Best way to do that is either with your shearform or the hand plane or the power plane if you could do it. I'll go over the shearform. It's probably the easiest way. What you'll want to do is start off on all the high points. Any point that is the highest point off the line is generally where you want to start. So I usually blend in the nose and the tail and then do the middle. Don't get rid your line 'cause that's kind of your reference of the round shape. When using any hand tool, it's good to hold the tool pretty firm in your hand. Don't let it move around. You're shaping the board. Don't let it shape you. Once I'm pretty happy with that, take a look at the overall outline and make sure, I don't want to do something different even though it's getting pretty close to too late. Take a step back and see what you see. I'm pretty happy with it right now, so take it to the next phase."
