Hi! My name is Andy Strohl and on behalf of Expert Village, in this clip we will be discussing challenges. Don’t forget to check out my work at www.strohldigital.com. Now what is a challenge you might ask? Well a challenge in Scrabble is your opponent saying that your word is either incorrectly spelled or doesn’t exist or isn’t within the guidelines of what makes a word in Scrabble. Now a word in Scrabble, the words that are not allowed are words that are always capitalized, prefixes or suffixes which stand alone are not allowed or words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe. These words aren’t allowed and of course if the word is spelled wrong. Now before the match starts, you and your opponent should agree upon the dictionary in which all challenges will be decided. For example, this is actually the American Dictionary. They even have a Scrabble Dictionaries which has every single word that you could possibly use for Scrabble. So you don’t have to decipher for yourself. Now let’s take a look at the board and see what is exactly being challenged on this board. So we have my opponent laying down the word tenant. I think what he is trying to say is a tenant, somebody who lives or occupies a resident, so I would definitely challenge this word and we could look it up in the dictionary. Now the rules for a challenge or quite simple. If I win the challenge, for example if the tenant is spelled with an a which it is then my opponent looses his turn. If I lose, I lose my turn. The games progresses from there. That’s the challenge. Use it wisely.
