Series Summary

Since the dawn of time, men and women alike have preferred straight clothing over wrinkled clothing. Cave drawings uncovered in the Mesopotamian Desert wilderness show women heating rocks and rubbing them on fur clothing. Wrinkled clothing was actually an offense punishable by death in Hammurabi's Code. A recent archaeological discovery has uncovered the oldest laundromat in recorded history while excavating the ancient city of Ur. Cleverly named Laund-UR-mat, this laundromat, actually started by Abraham's youngest brother Ephraham, is historical proof that even thousands and thousands of years ago, human beings found ironing clothes inconvenient and tedious and that people would rather outsource ironing than take the time to do it at home. Fortunately, there is help for those of us that burn holes through shirts and ruin blouses. The experts at Expert Village have made an easy to follow and completely free video series to make ironing at home an option again. Video Transcript

"The first thing you need to is set up your iron board, set it up at a level that is right by your waist. That will be comfortable for you and you will not be to high or to low. The next thing you want to do is plug the iron in, once you plugged it in your going to fill it up with water. The water hole is always found on the top of your iron, pour in your water, once you got the water you need your going to turn it on, this is usually found on the handle or on the side of the iron. Once you've turned it on you let it heat for a moment and choose your fabric, almost all irons have a fabric selection for lowest which is going to be your silks and rayons, to the highest will be 100% cotton. When you are ready to test for the iron to see if it going to be proper temperature, never touch the face plate, always touch your iron on the board, leave it for a second or two and then put your hand there. This will tell without burning you whether your iron is hot enough for the fabric you want. Never leave the iron just sitting, always either have it in motion when it's faced down, or have it on it's heel. That will prevent it from falling, burning your fabric, or burning you. Once you've chosen those fabrics and your ready to go, get your fabric and now your ready to iron."
