Most well versed artists these days will be able to execute anything from complex black and white or gray scale to intense vivid color. The size of the design typically doesn't really limit the artists as to what they can do. If you see lots of big work or lots of little work, it doesn't usually mean that they can't do any size. Typically an artists portfolio isn't necessarily a catalog of designs for you to choose from as much as it is a way for you to see the style of artwork that they are into but also the quality of the artwork that they are putting out. The line work, color, gradations of tone, solidness of the color or the fill. The style of artwork that you may be into could vary greatly on the chances of you just ending up with one tattoo over the course of your tattoo experience is pretty low. So building a rapport with one person to do all of your tattoos is probably preferable. Collecting tattoos though going from artists to artists has become a popular thing to do. So finding a group of artists or whoever you end up going to is important that they are able to produce a really wide range of subject matter. Just like the sentiments you want to express might very greatly from one week, one month, one year to the next."
