" Hi! My name is Rick Wyckoff and you can check out our website at avatart2.com. I am here on behalf of expertvillage.com talking about getting started as a tattoo artist. A common question given the current interest in tattooing, the television shows and all that is how do you get started? Are there schools that you can go to, etc.? The answer to that question is yes, there are schools. We have a school here at Avatar Tattoo it's called the Avatar Tattoo Academy of Visual Arts. Typically a course of training could last up to a year or more. There is really a lot involved in learning this craft. Other shops and individuals might charge any where from $8,000 to $10,000 for an apprenticeship that might last a year or so. Generally speaking their lesson plan is loosely constructed, put it lightly so you may or may not get very much out of that apprenticeship. Ultimately if you are interested in tattooing, seeking out somebody whose work you admire and getting them to teach you a formal apprenticeship style is probably the best way. A lot of the schools out there are designed simply to generate revenue. In other words, get as many people in and out of schools they can without any intent on really making you into good or ethical tattoo artist. At our school, the objective is the the opposite. Basically we are trying to counter all the uneducated mis-informed people that are out there tattooing these days. If you are interested contact us. Again, you can check out the website at avatartatoo.com or you can call the shop at 634-7351. "
