"It's extremely important that you shampoo the hair with clarifying shampoo prior to hair color. The reason for this is to remove any buildup, any toxins, any styling products that might be on the hair. Sometimes if you live in an area where there's what we call bad water, rust or chlorine in the water. You need to remove all those things from the hair shaft prior to putting hair color on your hair, in order for it to absorb properly. And I'm going to read from the bottle. Clarifying shampoo effectively cleanses by removing chlorine and other buildup without stripping from its natural nutrients. So that's what you're looking for is a clarifying shampoo that's going to remove any buildup from the hair without stripping it from its natural elements. This particular product has vitamins and proteins to provided ample nourishment but that's not necessary. As long as it says clarifying shampoo, that's the specific thing that you're looking for and it should take out any buildup off your hair. If you have an excess of buildup, where you probably live somewhere where there's a lot of rust in the water or chlorine in the water, leave the shampoo on your hair for two or three minutes before rinsing and then that's how you properly, that's how you properly shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo prior to color."
