"So I'm going to do a little mini demonstration on how you are going to start dreadlocks. The first thing you want to do is want to section your hair to probably about one inch pieces. You could go a little bigger than a inch but, an inch to a inch & a half. You don't want to go bigger than that because they could start to pull on your hair and that could be uncomfortable. So you want to have freshly washed hair, because part of the locking process is due to friction, and oily hair impedes that. So what you are going to do is you are going to get your little section. It is probably easier to start on top and work back. But, you are going to get your little section and you just kind of go twist it up a little. What you are going to do, you are going to start back combing and that is when you take the comb and you just run it. You run it all the way through the hair and you know it starts to knot up. It is really porous and I'm not actually doing that because I don't want to mess up this lovely young lady's hair right here. So you do that and you could also start off by doing a little tiny braid to kind of keep the hair up here lock. So you just want to start back combing and it takes a long time and you are going to find a friend who is willing to devote a lot of hours to your dreadlocks. So you just back comb, back comb, twist, back comb. You just keep doing it and you know and doing it and doing it. Until you've got it pretty much down to the end and you just kind of also pull on it like this to tighten them up. Once you get to the end you know and you got a little piece like this that is not going to be able to lock up. You just want to fold it like this. By the way you'll want to be using wax to hold it together. Get your dread wax. You'll want to be putting that through the whole thing especially after you finish the dreadlocks. You just fold up the little piece of hair like this and put a rubber band on it. Put some wax on it. Do a little palm rolling and you are good to go. You are good to go to the next one. But, it does take a lot of time. It is a big time investment. So find somebody who loves you enough to do that, and you know, maybe pay them. My sister did most of mine and I payed her in cigarettes."
