"Hi, I'm Melina Piroso and welcome to Expert Village. In this series we're going to talk about turning regular boring old jeans into funky bell bottoms. In this step we're going to talk about the hem on the bottom of our bells. After we have the triangle sewn on we're going to first iron this flat. The reason why you want to go ahead and iron this flat because if not when you are sewing the hem you are doing something like this. It's going to be very very bulky you are going to have this kind of clump here at the bottom. You don't want that what you want to do is open like this and that way you have a little bit more of a smaller clump. It's a clump but it's going to be a little bit smaller and it's going to look a little bit better. So we're going to go ahead and grab our iron and we're going to iron open the seam preparing to sew the hem. We're going to open it up like this and we're going to iron right down the middle so it's flattened out. We're going to take our scissors and we're going to maybe trim some of this access off. Now we can go ahead and maybe iron it once more to get it flat."
