"Hi, I'm Melina Piroso and welcome to Expert Village. In this series we're going to talk about turning regular boring old jeans into funky bell bottoms. In this clip I'm going to talk about selecting the right fabric for this project that we're doing. So, since we're making bell bottoms out of regular jeans, a regular jeans pant leg is kind of straight, so what we're going to do is we're going to cut up to the knee area and we're going to insert two triangle like pieces on each side to give it the flare bell bottom look. Now what happens if you select maybe this beautiful fabric that you love but it's not the same weight as the jean, So what's going to happen is when you make the bell; when you put the triangle fabric in, it's not going to hold the bell bottom shape. When you put the triangle in it's going to kind of smooch together and give you like a weird accordion pant look, which you might want but it's not bell bottoms. You want to pick a fabric that is similar weight as the jeans that you?re going to turn into bell bottoms. So say that we've select this pair of jeans to turn into bell bottoms; we're not going to use this because it's obviously not the same weight. We're going to use instead another pair of old jeans, and you can get tons of old jeans at any thrift store, their usually like $2 dollars, you can you know, they may be horrible and eighties looking but it doesn't matter as long as the weight is correct, you can always bring them home, chop them up, dye them and make them whatever is good for your taste."
