"Hi! I am Liz Muller from Liz’s Hair Design in Hollywood, Florida, and I am going to show you thinning shears. Thinning shears are taken to the hair, brought inside the hair, a quarter inch from the scalp, and you want to go in there, and you want to just texturize the hair with those thinning shears taking up the bulk. You do not want to bring it too close to the scalp because it just leaves a kind of funny. I do not like the way it looks when it is too close to the scalp. Actually I like to do it about a quarter inch from the scalp, even in the ends of the hair to give it another texture, another form in the haircut. Just bring it in there, sometimes people take chunks and they just thin out in chunks. Sometimes they take real thin sections and they cut into sections like that. There are different types of shears: we have double shears here, with the scissors, and a shear right here is the thinning shear, and right here is a scissors and you can cut, use two scissors in one; it’s really unique. You have different kinds of shears where the blade is; it's actually thicker and it just takes out more hair and more bulk, but that gives it a kind of texturizing to curly hair, okay. Now in a little bit I am going to show you how to style this hair and how to leave it curly with some gel, and actually how you blow dry it out a little bit to show you how it looks blow dried. "
