A person's hair says a lot about who they are and where they fit in the cultures and subcultures of human society. We human beings are the only species on planet Earth that cut and style their hair to symbolize something, whether it's personality, religious conviction, tradition, social status, membership in a group, or self-expression. Hair styles have zip codes, gender boundaries, proper names, and life cycles. We make value judgements about people based on the way they style their hair.
Whether we like it or not, if we hold down a job or interact with other people on a semi-regular basis, most of us will need to do something with our hair every day. Some people respond to this expectation by just cutting all of it off. Others ignore the social norm completely at the expense of stigma and ridicule.
Instead of taking either of those routes, get some free haircut tips and techniques in this free video lesson, including short haircut styles and ideas for guys with curly hair, like a layered style. Also learn how to use a razor or thinning shears to add texture to the cut, and how to finish it off with styling gel or mousse.
"Hi! I am Liz Muller from Liz’s Hair Design in Hollywood, Florida and on behalf of expertvillage.com, we welcome you. Today we are going to be discussing cutting and styling men’s hair, long hair and short hair. Because we are going to cut this hair short, we are going to also trim it long and I am going to show you how to style it curly and straight. First I am going to show you how to decide to style this hair curly. As you see, this client has very curly hair and has a lot of volume to the hair, so you do not want it to frizz out because curly hair tends to frizz. So we are going to decide to use a gel form substance that will give you a gloss and a shine and lock the curls in completely. It is completely clear. We are going to rub in that gel and we are going to go ahead and squeeze it in the hair like this, squeezing it, squeezing it in; just pressing it in the hair making sure that all the hair and its curl has this gel form, nice and curly pressing it in; or you can use a little mousse; some people use mousse, some people don’t, but I like to use gels. Basically the thicker the gel for curly hair the better. For this client’s hair a mousse… just light hold will be fine, you can place them in the hair just puffing it like this. "

on 8/2/2008 Liz is an awesome teacher, and stylist! My 15-year-old daughter cuts her friends' hair all the time. I wanted her to try to cut my curly hair so I searched the Net and found Liz's tutorial here. My daughter watched it through once, then watched it again as she cut. Great cut first time! Better than almost any professional stylist has done. Thanks Liz!

on 8/2/2008 I watched this entire series of videos because I want to give my brother a haircut--we're never happy with the ones he gets! Your video helped so much, thank you! Well done, good format.
