on 8/2/2008 This was the first time I've ever seen anyone explain styling hair with a hot comb. I have natural hair (no relaxer for 5 years) so knowing how to press is a Godsend. I also have 2 girls with past shoulder-length hair, so they will be very happy too. I wish I lived in FL!

"I am about to use a hot comb and with the hot comb you have to be very cautious. To use a Marcel iron you need a stove that heats up these combs but they are very hot and you have to be very careful not to burn the client. There are different sized combs, this would be a very small one with little teeth, they are very close together and it’s used more for the hairline I think. I would use actually that comb if the hair is short also, but I’m going to show a bigger comb and this comb is a little bigger and a little wider and if the hair is little bit more thicker, you want to use this comb right here. So there are several combs you can use on the hair but you have to be very careful not to burn the client, not to burn the hair and you can’t let it get too hot because it can scorch the hair. Okay, you might want to test it first on a towel and make sure that it is not too hot. Okay, if it’s hot, real hot, it would turn the towel brown because you’ll see burning. Okay, you might want to put a little hot, a little water on the comb, excuse me, to make sure that is not too hot. If it steams up like that it’s okay, but that’s what you want to do when it comes to hot combs. "
