"Hi, my name is Lauren, and on behalf of Expert Village i'm here to discuss short straight hairstyles. So today Heather wanted to kinda do a little bit more of a messier look. She does have the layers in her hair which will create a bit of a messier texturized look, however, it's not always as noticeable when you just blow out your hair, sometimes you do need to add product. What I'm going to do is add a little bit of product, I'm actually going to add some "mud" into her hair. A little bit on the lighter weight side, I'm just going to kind of create that separation that she needs. You're going to lift the hair from the ends, lift your fingers up and kind of work your way out like that. And you see how already, she's already pieced out just those ends which is really what you're looking for. You can grab little sections and kind of just piece them out all by the ends. Go around the entire head and do this. It is better to use a little bit of product and have to emulsify a little bit more on your hands later than it is to use too much. Otherwise you're going to defeat the purpose, you're gonna become a little greasy headed, and you're either gonna have to put corn starch in your hair in order to soak up some of those oils, or you're going to have to start over, which ever one you feel more comfortable with. Once we get those ends a little bit on the piecer side it's safe then to go up and get some of those hair line hairs that do wind up popping up. So then, you can kind of go in, I like to literally just kind of tousle the hair. I go in towards to root because again I don't want to mess up that piece-ness I just created on the bottom. I want to enhance it and give it a little bit more of a tousled look. So just grab those pieces, piece them out, get some of those hairline hairs. You can also utilize this method to separate bangs, and kind of add to your style. Because now you can see a bit of that layer that she has there, and the separation of those layers was in those bangs, and as it comes down towards her face, it falls in a piecer fashion. And that is how you create messy locks!"
