Preparing to Apply Stage Makeup

"It's very important when you get started, to make sure have all of your supplies set out. Make sure that you enough of everything, that you're not running out of them, and that you have everything that you need all in order and all set out. The reason for that, is because when someone's getting to be on stage, the actors, you know they have jitters, they're trying to get ready for things--there's lots of stuff going on, so you need to be really organized and really prepared so that process can go rather quickly. I like to set out all of my foundations all in one place, all of my blushes in one place, all my lip colors in one place, and all of my supplies and tools all together as well. So they're all laid out together and ready to go. You need to make sure that you've got everything you need for that particular show and it's all laid out so that you don't have to go looking for it, that that process runs very smoothly. It's also very important as you're setting up all of your supplies to make sure you as the makeup artist has a cape on and the actor has a cape as well. And the reason for that is because their costumes that they have on are very expensive, so you don't want to get makeup on those. I've also had a personal experience where I spilled an entire bottle of gray liquid hair color all over them. Fortunately, they didn't have their costume on yet, but that happens, so it's very important to make sure that you're protected because these makeups have such heavy ingredients and oils that it will ruin your clothes--it will ruin all kinds of things. Make sure that you have the cape on the actor and the cape on you as well. "
