"The next step in prepping the natural nail is to rough up the nail bed. The first thing you need to do is put a bit on the end of your drill and then turn it on. This is an electric nail file. A lot of people call it a drill, but it's actually an electric nail file. If you do not have one, you can use just a regular nail file. You want to use a very light pressure, so as to not damage the nail bed itself. You just, again, want to rough it up so that the acrylic has something to grab hold of and adhere to. We're going to go along the cuticle line, but you don't want to actually get on the cuticle itself. Some places have a class that will teach you how to use an electric nail file and some don't. It's one of those things you just have to kind of check into on your own. And you're just using very light pressure. Now, if you use a regular nail file, versus an electric nail file, it's going to take you a little bit longer until you get the hang of it. After you've roughed all ten up, you just want to dust the dust off. You can use a duster, or you can use a paper towel, just have the client kind of wipe their hands off. You want to do your best not to touch the nail bed with your hands if possible, though, just because you're trying to keep all of the oil off as possible. Just go ahead and set your electric file back in its cradle and dust the nails off and that is how you file the natural nail bed to prep it for acrylic application."
