"Hi, I’m Lillian Garcia with Salon in Scottsdale and on behalf of Expert Village.com I am going to talk to you about choosing the proper shampoo to use before giving yourself a home perm. You should never choose a shampoo that has a conditioner built into it. That would not be a good idea. That would make your hair too soft and the results of the perm won’t be as good. You are going to want to choose a shampoo that is a clarifying shampoo. What is a clarifying shampoo? Well, what it does it removes the residue from your hair from the daily products that you put in your hair such as hair spray and leave-on conditioners. So that is the shampoo that you are going to want to choose. You use about the same size you use as your daily shampoo, quarter size depending on the length of your hair, how you pour that onto your hand and just lightly massage it into your hair using rotating motions. You never want to use your fingernails because the fingernails will scratch your scalp and irritate your scalp and the waving lotion contains an alcohol which will irritate your scalp during the process of the perm. So you are going to want to just use the balls of your fingers and massage lightly the shampoo into your hair. One shampoo is usually enough unless you have a lot of residue in your hair, hen you give yourself two like shampoos. Rinse it really well and you are ready to start to start the perm. "
