Tips for Applying Lip Color

"Now we're going to do Kim's lips. I've already prep them with a little moisturizer, I like to use lip balms that have a little shea butter in them, because they're the most emollient and they really soften the lips. So I did that and then I'm just taking a tiny, tiny bit of concealer or foundation, your choice and I like to add a little bit of that to the lips first. The reason why I do that is it helps to neutralize the lip color so that when you're putting on your lipstick or your lip liner, whatever you choose you can really see the color. Our lips have a lot of natural pigment and they'll change the color sometimes and give you a color that maybe you weren't originally looking for. Now I'm going to take just a little pencil and at an angle here I'm just going to lightly follow Kim's lip line and just fill in a little bit. You don't need to use the pencil all over the lips, because that's what your lipstick is for, but at the same time make sure that you don't just have the line all the way around the lips because that doesn't quiet give you the affect that you might be wanting. Can you just open a little bit, that's perfect. So just like I was doing with the eyeliner just nice short strokes like that. I picked a nice warm color but it's going to eventually be a lighter lip, because when you do a smoky eye you want to make sure that you either focus makeup on your eyes or your lips but not both. Since we did a smoky eye we want to do a light lip so it doesn't look too much when we're done with everything. Just turn a little bit, okay! Then I'm just using a nice soft enrolment lipstick and with a brush I'm going to take this and blend it into her lips, blend it into the lip liner that I've already applied. "
