How to Sew a Button on Shirt Collar

"Hi! I'm Karen for Expert Village. Now I'll show you how to sew a new button on our reinforcement patch. Usually you can find a button somewhere on the shirt. If you don't, then you'll have to go look and match a button; find one from your button supply. You'll need to remove this with a seam ripper or scissor. The seam ripper is the easiest thing. Just take the seam ripper and get underneath the threads and pull that off. There you go, there's our button. We are going to set our machine to a stitch of 4 and a stitch length of 0. Put the fabric under the machine and place the button right in the spot and put the foot down on top of the holes of the button. Let me see if I can show that to you. So you see the buttons right through the foot. First you are going to test it by rolling forward. Now my stitch is too big for this button because the needle is hitting the button. So I am going to make my stitch width a 3 and try again. Now the needle is going through the hole and going through the hole again. I am going to make it just a tiny bit smaller because it looks like it needs it. When you see that your needle is going in out and without hitting the button anywhere, then you can step on your peddle and make some machine stitches. Now this button has 4 holes so we are going to move it forward into the other 2 holes. Now just trim your threads and the excess patch you can just trim around being careful not to cut your shirt; just cut a little circle. Okay and now that button will hold on good and tight for your shirt button repair. "
