Series Summary

Spa treatments are popular for weekend getaways, day-long vacations, or two hour respites. Many spas offer a variety of services, including body wraps, massage, facials, manicures and pedicures, exfoliating scrubs, and more. Even the ancient Greeks created spas alongside natural hot springs where warm water was plentiful. Today, spas can pop up in any area, with many cities supporting dozens of spas and a veritable spa subculture. Although generally thought of as female destinations, many spas are reaching out to male clients with service packages geared towards relieving stress, grooming, muscle relaxing with massage, and detoxifying.

In this free spa skin care video, esthetician Kate Weinberg gives you tips on using facial scrubs and exfoliant products. You will learn what to use on your neck and face and how to deal with acne prone skin. Kate covers the many natural forms of scrubs, including salt and sugar rubs. She also gives you tips on synthetic products and a caution to avoid apricot scrubs on the face. Kate recommends getting a professional to choose a regimen that will work for you!

Video Transcript

"Kate: In this clip, we're going to talk about how to exfoliate the skin and what kind of scrub to use to exfoliate and why it's important. Everybody needs to exfoliate the skin. When we're children, our skin exfoliates naturally. As we get older, the exfoliation process, which is the removal of dead skin cells, slows down. So basically can feel that there's a layer of dead skin and I'm going to remove it using a granular scrub. This is the easiest way to take care of your skin at home and you're going to want to do this. The frequency varies from skin type to skin type but at least once a week. Do you often exfoliate Lizzie? Lizzie: I do. Kate: You do? What do you use at home? Lizzie: I use whatever I get my hands on. Kate: So she uses whatever she gets her hands on. I'm going to prescribe something a little more specific for here today, okay? Lizzie: Yes."
