"The first thing you want to do is you want to prep your skin for the makeup. Since this is kind of a matte look, you don't want to use anything doey or glowy as far a moisturizer. An oil-free moisturizer is great. If you have dry skin, you could use a little more moisturizing. If you have oily skin, you really want to get a matifier, something that's oil-free and not going to make your skin shiny or doey because that's not the look we're going for here. She has already cleansed her skin with cleanser and water, so her skin is really, really clean. You want to make sure that you have a nice clean pallet to work with, especially the eye makeup. Make sure all your eye makeup is off before you start this look, or any look for that matter. Cleaning the skin is very important in general for any makeup application. You want to apply the moisturizer all over the skin right down to the neck. Don't forget the neck. You want to keep your skin nice. Since you're going to be applying makeup, you want your skin to be nice and moisturized underneath so it doesn't look dry. Even though we're not going for that glowy look, we still don't want that dry kind of peely or flaky look, especially on young skin. That's not a good look to go for. Then I always like to use a little bit of an eye cream, especially since we're going to be using a lot of makeup and powder around the eyes. You want to make sure your eyes are nice and moisturized. Powder can tend to seep into the creases and cracks of your eyes and accentuate wrinkles. Just around the eyes. You don't want to put it on top of the eye, but just around the eye. Then lastly, a little moisturizer. This is important because we're going to be using a really matte lipstick and it can tend to be a bit drying. Before you even start your makeup, put on a little lip conditioner so that'll soak into your skin before you get to the lipstick and keep your lips moisturized. Now we're ready to start with color."
