Various forms of straight razors have been used throughout history dating back to prehistoric clam shells and flint shaving devices. Today, straight razors, also called open razors or cut throat razors, are made of stainless steel blades that can fold into a handle. Despite the appearance and horror movie scenes, it is actually quite difficult to cause any major damage or cuts with a straight razor blade. An experienced shaver can largely avoid any dangerous circumstances by shaving in the proper direction and angle.
Although straight razors have been largely overshadowed by disposable and electric razors, many men still enjoy the close shave achieved by a straight razor blade. In this free video series, our expert will teach you how to shave with a straight razor. You will learn how to prepare the skin for shaving with hot towels and oil, how to put in a razor blade and techniques for shaving with a straight razor. You will also learn how to get a closer shave by shaving a second time, and get tips on applying aftershave. If you are looking for the closest shave possible, let our expert teach you the basics of using a straight razor.
"Hi I'm Joyce with Major League Trim on behalf of Expert Village I will be speaking on how to preform straight razor shave. First you assist your client and you know what type of skin they have in, with this particular client he has sensitive skin. So you want to keep the skin very warm and make sure that his hair is the right length. I will be using a shave oil and in this oil it is hemp seed, grape seed, and avocado seed oils by True Gentlemen. The oil is going to be a clear substance and you want to stand near your client and massage the oil into the scalp or his skin. You want to divide it evenly throughout his skin. This helps prep his skin and keep it nice and soft so you want to divide it evenly throughout his skin. After you get the oil evenly throughout his skin you will go out and get your hot towel and keep that nice and warm. So you want to keep it at a very high temperature. You want to ask your client which temperature is best for him but try to keep it as warm as possible as much as he can stand. "
