Series Summary

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While ideas of what is beautiful vary widely, general trends in human sexuality, ruled by complex psychological and sociological mechanisms involving imagery, mass media aesthetics, and basic biology, tend to at least dictate what is attractive. So, whether by choice or under social pressure, many women practice the often-painful art of hair removal, usually reshaping the eyebrows, waxing the upper lip, and shaving the underarms and legs.

Body waxing is one of the most widely used techniques for hair removal. It involves taking a heated wax and applying it to the areas of undesired hair growth, then applying a strip of cloth over the wax and ripping it off quickly, taking the hair with it. While this process can be extremely painful, unwanted hair can be an embarrassing problem that tends to make people feel less confident about their appearance, and most women wax regularly.

In this free how to video series, learn how to body wax the right way, with tips and techniques for causing the least amount of pain and removing the hair the first time. Our expert will also show you how to care for the skin of the waxed area before and after hot waxing.

Video Transcript

"Hi! My name is Kara. On behalf of expertvillage.com, today we’ll be talking about how to prepare the skin for a lip wax. Now we’re ready to do the lip wax. The first thing we want to do is cut two inch strips measuring approximately, one over each lip. Cut a few strips, because you might need a few and set them aside. We now want to prepare the skin for the lip wax by applying our cleaner. Go over gently on each side of the lip. It’s very important that we thoroughly clean the area before it is waxed. Now we are ready to begin waxing."
