Designing the Bottoms of a Custom Bikini

"JENNIFER CROW: Hi, this is Jennifer and I'm the owner of wedgiewear.com, and we're here with Expert Village. In this part, we're going to talk about the bottom. Again, the measurements just around your waist and then just start drawing it out. Once you have drawn it out, kinda it's going to resemble this. This is the bottom. This is the top, and they're going to connect. And that's the top. And then also while you're drawing it out or while you're cutting it out, you can also make changes to it, as you see it on the fabric. And again, you do want to make it larger than smaller. So you're just going to lay it down on a flat surface. Again, you can use pins or you can just start cutting it out. So we're just going to start here, and just start cutting along the top. And then again, the curves and everything in here are very important, especially when you sew. If you are a beginner sewer, it is good to leave more maybe on the edges because it is harder to sew there as well. And it doesn't have to be perfect or a straight line, because when you start sewing it on a serger, it's going to cut that excess part off that you don't want. So after you're done cutting out your pattern for the bottom, it's going to look a little bit like this. Again, this is the bottom part of it and this is the top. And why are patterns a little bit have--are longer right here. And longer, as this one is a lot longer, is if you wanted to put any jewelry or anything on that, you'd give yourself a little bit more of a--more fabric to deal with that. So it's just going to pretty much look like your pattern except that it has fabric on it now. So if you fold it up, you can kind of see the shape of the suit now coming in, the form. Obviously, this is a little large, but you're going to be taking it in quite a bit. So once you do, it's going to take the form of--in the size that you want it to be."
