"So before we start doing the makeup, we want to prep the skin for application. So for photographs you do not want the skin to be shiny or dewy or glowy. You want to keep it as matte as possible, as far as the skin. Shiny skin on camera doesn’t look that great. So we’re going to start out by using an oil free, mattefying moisturizer. Now if you have really dry skin, you can use something a little more moisturizing. But if you have oily skin or combination skin, you want to use something that is more mattefying. She just washed her face and cleansed it really well to get all the makeup off, so I’m going to use a little more moisturizer just so that her face is nice and moisturized and healthy. You don’t want it to look too dry. Once you start putting makeup on and powder on, if your face is not moisturized properly then that’s going to look bad also. You want to have a nice balance of moisture, without looking shiny or without looking dry. You want to take it all over the face, don’t neglect the neck. Blend, blend, blend. You want to make sure the moisturizer sinks into the skin before you start with foundation. And I always like to use an eye cream. I think it’s important to use a little bit of eye cream, especially when you’re going to have a lot of makeup on your face. Your under eyes tend to start getting dry or looking dry, and you want to prevent that, so you just want to put a little eye cream just around the eye area; just to help the eye area look young, smooth. And lastly, you just want to put on a little lip conditioner. You always want to do that in the first step, so that by the time you get to the lips, the lip conditioner has completely soaked into the lips. Ok, and now that she is moisturized we can start with foundation."
