" Hi! My name is Jamie Yasko-Mangum and I’m with Successful Style and Image. Today on Expert Village I’m going to talk about the proper fit of a business suit jacket. When we’re looking at a jacket men are all different sizes so you need to make sure when you put the jacket on, number one the jacket is not too big, number two the jacket is not too small. I know that looks extremely elementary, but a lot of times men put on suits and they don’t realize that the fit of the jacket also communicates to the audience. So when we first look at a suit jacket, we’re going to look at the lapel the lapel should lay very nicely on the chest of a man. You shouldn’t see pulled seams, that’s just bad quality of a suit it needs to lay extremely nice on the torso of the gentlemen. When you’re looking at the buttons sometimes many men carry a lot of their weight area around their abdomen. There you want to make sure that the buttons of your jacket, the buttons that they match up so when you’re buttoning your jacket you’re not pulling it, it looks very nice when you’re buttoning it. When you put on a suit you’ll notice that when somebody puts on a suit you’re always going to look at the back of the suit, what you do not want is any pulling of the suit or you do not want any rolls in the back of the suit, if you see rolls or you see pulling you need to go up to the next size, because that means the suit is too small. Next you want to look at are the arms, you do not want arms that are real tight around. Remember as far as the back of the jacket and the arms if you take your arms out and you pull them around and hug yourself they should not constrict on your arms and it shouldn’t be too tight up here in your shoulder area. So you want to make sure, move around with your jacket to see how the arms fit they should drape nicely, they should not be too big what you don’t want is a ton of material. They also need to fit you right down here on the top of your wrist, that’s where the bottom of the jacket needs to go because when you’re talking a little bit of your shirt may come out of there. That is proper fit of a jacket. Thank you."
