"There are several aspects to having a talent competition if you choose to do so in your pageant. The first thing that you want to do is make sure you set a time limit. Three minute number is plenty of time for someone to perform their act. The next thing that you want to do is make sure that you pre-screened the music. Make sure that the lyrics are appropriate, that there is no foul language, and that there are no sexual references because we want to keep it all clean and modest. But keep it fun as well. Create different categories for the talent competition. For example, dancing, tumbling, and speaking a monologue, comedy, playing an instrument and singing. And if they want to play the guitar, then make sure that there is equipment available just in case they want to plug it in to an amp. But if they do play something like a flute, make sure that the instrument is mic'ed. If they play the piano, make sure that the piano is mic'ed. Whatever they do, make sure that the audience is able to hear it."
