" Hi, on behalf of Expert Village I'm Garen Palmer and this is the Ritz Tuxedo Rental. Today we're going to talk about the proper way to measure a sleeve length for a shirt. A lot of people think that a sleeve length for a shirt starts right here at the shoulder and goes down and that's the length. But that's not actually how it's done. It?s done by putting a tape right in the middle of the back of the neck, right on that neck bone. It's just easier to have the arm straight down. You can go like this (raises right elbow to chest level) but it?s probably just easiest to have the arm straight down. Measure right in the back of the neck; right in the middle, over the top of the shoulder. Don't do any shortcuts by going across the back because that will shorten your length; so, across the top of the shoulder down to the wrist. You should measure about an inch beyond the wrist because you want a little bit of slack there. If it's measured only to the wrist, every time they move that shirt is going to slide up. So be a little bit generous in your sleeve length. It's not going to hurt because once it's buttoned the shirt will stay in its proper place and you have a little room to move your arms back and forth. Back of the neck, right on the neck bone, across the top of the shoulder down to about an inch past the wrist. Do that and it should fit every time. There are two different types of shirts. There is your regular cuff. These take a cuff link. It's not a French cuff. There is also French cuff tuxedos where it folds and makes the fold right here (folds sleeve at the wrist) then the cuff link goes in. Either way the measuring is done the same. You want your length to be the same."
