" Hi! My name is Dawn Shannon for Expert Village, owner of Intuition Salon and Spa and I’m also a hairstylist. I’m now going to demonstrate some different techniques that you can use on the ends of the hair to create separation and if they wanted a little bit of wispiness. If you wanted more wispiness you can use more razoring but with this looking for more of a choppy separated look. So now we’re going to start in the back, we’re going to lightly razor the ends, if you wanted more wispiness on the ends you could use the razor heavier and then we’re going to separate this is where the art comes in. Now I went through here even though we want some volume here and some shape in here I went and razored out a lot of the bulk right in through there so there’s not a bump, some people might want a bump in this particular case we don’t. Okay now we’re going to look at the sides, this side I’m going to take a little bit less out especially down around here it’s usually thinner so we don’t texturize quiet as much as we would maybe in some other areas. This area being just a little bit thicker we’re going to take a little more out up in through the top area…each side of the head isn’t necessarily the same so you always want to take into account individually each side and what it needs, so you won’t necessarily be doing the same exact same thing on each side of the head. Now I’m feeling through the cut and I feel that there’s a little bit of excess bulk in through this area here so I’m going to take just a little bit more and that completes our razoring for this particular haircut and this particular technique."

on 6/30/2009 As a hairstylist for 13 years who's specializes in razor cutting, I feel I can comment, that this type of razor cutting is, in my opinion, what gives razor cutting a bad name. Firstly the hair is too dry to be cut with razor, thus creating split hairs and frizz on many people. The flat of the blade can frizz peoples hair out. Razor cutting has been butchered for far to many years, I for one am working to give it back it's good name. A razor used properly, can be used to cut and entire head of hair start to finish, on ANY hair type with no frizz. I saw none of the techniques on this video to do this, where was your use of the heel and tip of the blade?
