" Hi! My name is Dawn Shannon for Expert Village, owner of Intuition Salon and Spa. So now we’re going to start the coloring process and one of the things that I’m going to take into account is I’m going to look and decide what kind of affect we totally want to create here. Really I just want to put a little bit of framing around her face and a little bit of lightness We don’t want any streaking and she wants it to look very natural as this is the first time she’s ever colored her hair. So we’re going to focus the lightness through here gradually a little less light as we go back and then the rest we’re going to do the little bit of darker natural brown color. Then what you want to also take into account is where do they normally part their hair. In this case she normally parts her hair in the middle which is someone likes to part their hair in different directions the middle is always a safe place. If she were to part her hair to the side with this particular technique I would start her foils going this direction on the side. If she were to part it on this side I would focus doing it this direction but since she parts in the middle and likes to do different things I’m going to do her highlights in the middle so that when she styles her hair it’ll go with how she wears it. Okay so now we’re going to start her highlights and we don’t want to do a whole lot of contrast around her face you want to be really careful because where you place the first highlight really can make a difference and I’m just trying to brighten up the overall look of her hair so I’m going to start a little bit back from her hairline. If you wanted to lighten up totally you can do a highlight all the way around the face here, so starting here I’m going to take wide but fine sections. You want to tip the client so their head is where you can see exactly where the foil is. Make sure that the foil is really flat and tight up against the hairline. It’s very important that the color is perfectly placed up through here, when you place the color up through here make sure there’s not too much color on the brush. Be very careful with the ends of the hair if these ends were really light we wouldn’t put the color on there. When folding up the foil make sure that you don’t put too much pressure up at the top as that can make it leak and then you can get spots on their scalp."
