Series Summary

Men and women have been coloring their hair since the beginning of time using chemicals, plants and pigments. In recent times, men and women dye their hair a variety of colors including everything from blonde to blue. Hair dye is made up of pigments (color) or bleaches. Depending on whether you are adding color to your hair or taking color away, the process of dying your hair can be lengthy and sometimes painful. Highlights and lowlights are accent colors that are added to specific sections of hair, as opposed to an “all-over” color that is applied to all the hair on the head.

" Hi! My name is Dawn Shannon for Expert Village owner of Intuition Salon and Spa and I’m also a hairstylist, today we’re going to be covering tips and techniques for hair coloring. First is you want to take into account the color of your clients hair, their eye color and their skin tone and then also you want to go over with them what they’re looking to do and go over with them you know what’s going to work. You want to take swatches and you can put it up against their eyes and their hair and their skin and you can see what goes best on them and also they can see along with you. Now with Tanya she has very cool toned green eyes, she’s got a little bit warm skin and her natural color is very neutral with a little gold tones. So basically we’re just going to enhance her color, we’re going to do her natural color just slightly darker, we’re going to put in a little bit of gold streaks and a few lighter brown streaks and we’ll know in looking at her eyes that they’re a little cooler it will mean we should add a little bit of extra gold, cooler meaning blue tones, warmer tones meaning oranges, golds, that sort of thing and that’s what we’re going to do."
