"Hello. I'm Donna Beth Joy Shapiro on behalf of ExpertVillage.com, and today I'm going to show you how to iron a dress. I didn't want to spend the money to have it dry cleaned and I really couldn't understand why it had a "dry clean only" label on it. So, I put it in the washing machine, and now I'm ready to iron it. I have my iron set on the lowest setting; the synthetic setting. I am not going to use starch. I am going to just iron it dry. I'm going to turn the steam setting on the iron off. I don't think steam would hurt it, but I don't really need it. You want to make sure that all of the buttons are buttoned. When you iron something, close up as many things as you can, so that when you are finished, the garment looks as good as possible. Alright. I'm going to just start at the front and work my way around. If the skirt is too long to pull it all the way up (if the leg of the ironing board gets in the way), then what you are going to have to do is iron the top part of the skirt all the way around and then pull it down the board like this and then iron the bottom. You probably are going to have to do that with most dresses. This seems fairly easy to iron; there are no pockets in the way. It's pretty straight forward. I'm moving the iron as quickly as possible. I don't want to take any chance of melting the rayon or burning it. The wrinkles seem to be falling out very, very quickly. If they weren't then I would increase the setting on the iron just a little bit. With any kind of synthetic, you really want to increase it in very small incrimints. Just a few degrees difference and you can burn the fabric. Why would something say "dry clean only" when I could easily put this in the wash and I am ironing it so easy. But, a lot of times the clothing manufacturers are just covering their hides. They don't know if the fabric might run or if the colors might run in the wash. Maybe the fabric will pull; maybe it will melt. I didn't put it in the dryer; I will say that. I think a lot of times, things just really are marked "dry clean only" so that when you do take it to the cleaner and get it back, the garment looks great. So I'm almost done; it looks great. Thanks for watching!"
