"Hi, I'm Chris Faircloth, Artistic Director and co-owner of Salon Teez. For Expert Village, this is how to trim women's hair. Here we have a typical thinning shear. This is called a thirty-two teeth thinning or blending shear. This will remove about half of the weight in the hair or half of the hair in a particular section. There are different types of thinning shears such as a five notch or a seventeen blade where there will have just five teeth along here or seven teeth along here. Those actually create more dramatic results. For today's demonstration, we'll actually be using a thirty-two teeth blending shear as this is the most common and mostly, most widely used type of thinning shear in the salons today. Again, it's an offset handle so our thumb just slightly goes in. Our ring finger is in the ring finger hole. Our shears are being held by these three fingers here and our thumb is slightly involved in the thumb hole and we're just slightly cutting, only using our thumb by placing our thumb inside the thumb hole, it creates more of a quacking motion such as this where we only want to be using the bottom blade or the thumb blade to actually be cutting the hair. So those are the thinning shears that we'll be using for our demonstration today."
