There has been notable documentation of supportive garments for women as far back as the seventh century. In the 16th century the corset was developed for the wealthy. It not only supported the breasts but also squeezed in the gut to create a thin looking waist. It wasn't until the 20th century when the modern looking bra was developed. It has been questioned as to the necessity of them but bras do serve specific purposes needed and desired by many women. It is designed to give support to the breasts. It is also used to lift and shape the breasts as much or as little as desired. Sizes typically range from A to D but in extreme cases there are DD, DDD and F sizes available to larger busted women.
It's not always easy to pick out bras. There are many questions you need to ask yourself. Do you want a wire or wireless bra, what color, what size, how much support? All of these factors and more go into choosing a comfortable bra that you can wear for long periods of time. This video series will give you tips and information on how to answer these questions and how to make sure your next bra will be your favorite one!
" Hi! My name is Christine and I am speaking to you from Simply Lovely Lingerie in Stratford, Ontario. On behalf of expertvillage.com, we would like to talk to you about bras and bra fitting. Do you find your bra straps are always slipping off of your shoulders? It could be one or two different reasons. One of them, though the main reason, probably is, if you check the size of the band that you have around your body shape, if the band is too loose, it is a natural gravitation that the bra is going to start riding up and the straps are going to start sliding off to the side. Always be sure that, especially when you put on a new bra and wear it for the first few times, that the bra straps are at the correct location that they are supposed to be. They should be snug but not tight on the shoulders, and that the bra band is where it is supposed to be and it is the correct tightness, because all of the support comes from the base of the bra. So as long as we have the bra band where it should be, the straps should stay up on top of the shoulders. If for any reason you have addressed all of these issues and the bra straps are still slipping, there are some bra accessories that you can get that will hold the bra straps together. The odd occasion... there will be a customer who has very sloped shoulders, and regardless of what the bra fitter will help them with as far as the straps staying on, they still will slip. So then you'll have to go to the bra accessory. But your lingerie fitter will know. "
