Summary: Part 3 in this Learn tips on how to make knots for a handmade beaded hemp necklace in this free video guide to making unique, handcrafted jewelry.
"Hi, my name is Amy Kline, I'm here on behalf of Expert Village to show you how to create hemp jewelry. Now that I've showed you the square knot, I'm going to show you our half knot sinnet which creates the twisted pattern. It's basically the same half knot we were using in alternating directions to make the square knot, but know all you do to create the twisted pattern is just keep working from the same side. So, you're going to start with the left side and you're going to cross it over creating a loop on the left side over your drone strands and you take the right side, lay it over and pull it under and up through the loop you created on the left side and then you pull it tight holding the drone strands tight at the same time which makes it a little challenging. When you pull it tight that's your half knot. Now, you can see that when we started the green was on the left side and now it's on the right. Now if we were going to go into the square knot we would then, because now it's on the opposite side, start this one. But to create the twisted pattern we're going to keep working from the left side. So now it's going to be the tan crossing over the drone strands and you have the green over that on this side and then up and under through the loop and you pull it tight. So now the green is back on the left side. You put that over, the tan over that, up through the loop and pull it tight. Now, your work is going to start turning as you continue to do this and it's normal, you got to let it do that or else the pattern won't come through. So you're going to notice as you're working that this is actually going to be turning as you work on it and it's going to cause the hemp to want to curl under like that, but you want to make sure that you keep whatever side you were working with on that side. So, we know that the green is on the right, so we want to keep it on the right and we're making another half knot and pulling it tight. You can see it's just twisting so you just want to make sure you pull it tight and it untwists itself so that you can create a twisted pattern which comes out looking like this. As you can see compared to the square knot sinnet, the half knot sinnet creates a twisted look."
