Exfoliating the skin cosmetically is the act of removing dead cells from the top layer of the epidermis. This is important for keeping the skin looking young, healthy, and vibrant. One way to achieve it is through a process called a chemical peel, which utilizes salicylic and glycolic acid to remove the uppermost layer of dead skin. Peels are usually performed in a spa or a dermatologist’s office, though there are other over-the-counter products that can be used at home—but they have a lower concentration of the active ingredients.
Though many parts of the body can benefit from exfoliation of the skin, chemical peels are most often used for the areas of the face. The cheeks, chin and neck especially benefit from the chemical method because the skin is not as rough in these areas. In this free video series, learn what to expect on your next appointment at the spa or the dermatologist’s office, and decide whether a chemical peel is the right treatment for your particular need or skin condition.
"On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Angie Yarid from LA Wax and Skincare Center in Miami, Florida and today we’ll be talking about chemical peels. Let’s talk about chemical peels and the reasons why we would get a chemical peel. Everybody’s skin is different, some people have oily skin, they have acne condition, some people have dry skin where they burn easily, even though all skins burn at some point in time because of the atmosphere or being in the sun, some people have a lot of discoloration, so there reasons that are important that you need to take care of while you have a chemical peel. Let’s take somebody that has discoloration on their skin. We’ll do a basic cleansing, then we’ll do the applied application of hydroxyl or a glycolic peel this will help the skin to renew itself, to renew the collagen and it’ll peel like in three days and then you’re back to your normal face with better toning."
