Summary: For smooth, clean braids, it's important to comb out all hair knots. Get tips for combing your hair in this free hairstyle video about how to prepare hair for braiding.
"As we get ready to comb, what I like to do is start around the edges and just start, you know, like behind the ear. Just like I said, start from the outside and then work your way further down and you'll see the hairs starting to come out. Go to the front, work it down to where you by the scalp and pulling it all the way out. Start with the outside and go down. This makes it really easy on the hair. Get all the tangles out at the end first and then get the ones that are a little bit deeper. Tilt your head the other way. Start on this side. Start at the very edge. Sometimes it helps if you grab it and just do the ends. Just to make sure you pick it out just a little bit better and you're not pulling on their head so much. You've got a hold on it so it doesn't snag and pull and hurt and make them cry. Just start on the outside and work your way down. Do all the edges first, before we get to the main chunk of the hair. Just so nothing gets caught as you're pulling your comb away."
