Summary: Using a clarifying shampoo is the first step before braiding hair. Learn how to use a clarifying shampoo in this free hairstyle video about how to prepare hair for braiding.
"We're getting ready to start so we want to make sure that we wet the head really well. Get some warm water and make sure that the person whose head you're braiding and washing is very comfortable with the temperature. Because you do not want to burn them and you don't want them to get really cold. You can get a cup if you don't have a spray and just get the head as wet as you can so you can develop a nice lather with the shampoo. Just get all that hair really wet. Now that the hair is wet, we're going to do our first shampoo. We're using a clarifying shampoo with tea tree oil to make sure that the scalp is really clean. Don't be afraid to be liberal with the amount that you use and just try to spread it out throughout the head. Get it as much in the hair as possible. The more it's in the hair, the more foam you'll get the more it'll lather and then you can work it into the scalp. If you have nails, try to scratch at the scalp to make sure you break it up and get any kind of, anything that might have been in there off the scalp. Doing this also loosens the scalp to get it ready to be pulled on, tugged on, oiled up, everything, get it ready to be stressed, which is what we're going to be doing as we braid."
