"REBECCA SATO: Hi. I'm Rebecca with ExpertVillage.com. And we're going to talk about how to find out if your writing is going to be marketable before you put in a lot of time and energy, and there's a few ways to do that. And I'm not--there's no way I can tell you every single way and different avenues because it's a little bit different for every type of writing and with every publisher. But the important thing is to do your research and find out. If you have a great idea for a novel and maybe you've published some things in the past, maybe not a novel but you have other writings, some kind of credentials, sometimes, you don't even have to write the book at all before you can get a contract. You can just write a proposal and say, "These are my credentials, this is what I want to write about and this is why I'd write an awesome book." Sometimes, you can get a contract just from that and then, of course, you have to write the book and it has to be good. But as far as I'm concerned, the hardest part is out of the way. You're getting paid for it, so go for it. So that's one way and then there's other ways to ensure that you don't put in more time and energy than necessary, and we'll talk about that next."
