"This activity is called using language cards. This is a great way to get communication flowing, get their imagination flowing, as well as to teach the children how to form words properly. I use just everyday cards that we have, and I lay them out. Hamster. Whale. Fish. Monkey. Shark. And I ask them to choose one, so they choose the hamster. I'll say, "Can you tell me what this hamster is doing?" The child may say, "He's going to his grandma's house." Well, I can't really see that in the picture but that's what children will often do. The point is to get them to start using their imagination and communicating what they see in the photo. Sometimes I will say, "Let's make up a story about these two cards." And I may start the story so the child will get thinking about what to say next. Say the "shark swim in the ocean, but he wished that he could climb in trees. And the monkey..." and I would stop and let the child make up the rest of the story. It's a great way to get communication flowing for children especially when you use the real photos. That's how you use language cards."
