"The first thing that you have to do in order to appear confident as a speaker is stay in control of your emotions. You might feel like you want to cry, you might feel like you want to scream, you might feel like you're very, very nervous, and that's okay, but the thing of it is, you have to be in control of it. You don't want your audience to see that you're emotional. For example, if you are so nervous, or so upset; maybe you messed up something, or you think you messed something up, and so you're a bit of an emotional wreck, and you think you might cry; rather than crying, or crying and running offstage, perhaps you just hesitate, take a deep breath, and then go on. As long as the audience perceives you as in control emotionally, then you will come across as confident. This is also true for very, very passionate subjects that you might want to get a little loud about, or get a little angry about. Keep calm; don't go over the edge emotionally if you want to appear confident."
